The backup was real at Boca Raton Police Foundation’s annual benefit.
More than 300 Boca Raton Police Services’ supporters attended Call for Backup at Jennifer and Marc Bell’s gracious home. Bell founded and chairs the foundation. They host the event every year.
“We wanted to do something to help the department,” Bell said when he acknowledged the sponsors. “We want the best trained police when we dial 911.”
This was an evening to get acquainted with the officers, there in uniform, and a chance to mingle with Interim Police Chief Michele Muccio. She has felt community support for the 30 years she has been an officer, she told Boca Voice.
Officer Shawn Lyman and the department’s spokesman Mark Economou showed the crowd how a trained K-9 reacts. Dino learned his commands in German, Lyman said.
Coral Springs Mayor Scott Brooks was a new face in the crowd. He was there with Councilman Andy Thomson, raised in Coral Springs. “We all need each other,” he said and vowed to work with Mayor Scott Singer to make that happen.
