Publisher’s Letter for July

It can be hard to stay positive right now, but I’m convinced we can do this. We’ve all worked hard, and if you’re like me, you were raised to ride out the hard times and keep looking forward. That’s exactly what we need to do.

It’s summertime, so we can stay active and enjoy the outdoors and patio dining evenings.

All of us have become Zoomers by necessity. And turns out it’s busy in cyberspace here. On July 1, Boca Save Our Beaches has a special screening on plastics in the ocean that supporters were asked to view. There’s a candidates’ forum for the Aug. 18 primary and nine assured the West Boca Community Council they would be in on their July 1 Zoom meeting. Boca Chamber’s 50th annual Golf Classic resumes on July 31.

Instead of the traditional July Fourth gathering, Boca led up to the holiday with a week’s worth of programs and how-tos. Beaches may be temporarily closed for crowd precautions, but we can still celebrate at home with a barbecue.

I don’t know about you, but I intend to fly the flag on the Fourth and probably even wear some red, white and blue. It won’t be the usual salute to our nation’s birthday, but a reminder of what we’re made of. Grit. We don’t quit.

We’re all hoping for a Covid cure that will help mitigate the contagion of this terrible disease. Every month is one step closer to that medical reality. I hope you feel that way, too.
