Palm Beach County public schools just announced a drive to donate cash or gently used computers for at least 11,000 devices so kids without them can start online learning March 31. County schools are closed until at least April 15. Here’s what you can do:
- Earmark “Device Drive” for cash contribution to The Education Foundation, 505 S. Congress Ave., Boynton Beach, FL 33426 or at org
$275 will provide one device.
- Donate gently used device on approved list below. Drop off at any Office Depot location in Palm Beach County:
Dell Chromebook 4G memory/32 G hard drive minimum; Dell Windows Desktop/Laptop 4G memory/128G hard drive minimum; Microsoft Surface Pro 4G memory/128 G hard drive minimum; Apple Laptop 2013 or later with 4G/256G drive minimum; iPad 5th generation or higher, 32G and above
- Eligible households without internet access can apply online for two months free internet access by Comcast (internetessentials.com/covid19). IComcast made available Xfinity Wifi hotspots for free and giving all customers unlimited data for no additional charge, according to the district.
“The Education Foundation of Palm Beach County has partnered with Florida Power and Light Company, Comcast, Office Depot and the School District to ensure that all of our 180,000 plus students will have internet access,” according to the school district.
