Office Depot team gears up for Race for the Cure

With Komen’s 29th Race for the Cure a few weeks away, it’s crunch time for the team at Office Depot.

“We’re the largest corporate team and we always aim to be,” said Alex Price, director of community investment. “We hope to have over 300 associates.”

Komen’s statewide president dropped in for a lunch-and-learn last week, Price said. And fundraising has started at the Boca-based company toward the event’s $1 million goal.

This isn’t just about being part of the 2020 breast-cancer walk/run and survivors event at Meyer Amphitheatre, 105 Evernia St., West Palm Beach on Jan. 25.

“Some people are going through the journey here,” Price added. “We want a big show of support and affection.”

They also urge employees to encourage friends and neighbors to join them. “We subsidize half the registration fee to recruit them to join our team,” Price said.

The 2020 South Florida Race for the Cure has changed the locations for some race activities. And there’s an earlier time to recognize warriors and survivors.

New this year, Palm Beach Post Centennial Park will be a hub for activities including the Drive Shack Team Tailgate area and Race Day registration on the Fern Street side of the park. The Kid Zone will also be located there. The start line for the Tots and Kids runs will be at the intersection of Flagler Drive and Evernia Street.

The survivor ceremony is 9 a.m. in the Meyer Amphitheatre to join the 2020 Ford Warriors in Pink who will lead the 5K Walk/One-Mile Family Fun Walk. The Diagnostic Centers of America Pink Ribbon Café will now be on the western berm of the amphitheater from 7 to 9 a.m.

Here’s how to register: komenflorida.org/race or call 561-514-3020, ext. 20. Registration fees start at $35 for adults and survivors; $20 for youth (under 18); and $55 for virtual participation. Fees increase an additional $5 on race day.

Here’s the schedule:
