Who wouldn’t want the hottest influencer showcasing their business? We would all love promotions reaching millions of people with a click of a button.
It’s easier to reach an influencer than you think.
At UnfilteredPR, I’m always reaching out to brands and influencers. After numerous pitching emails, DM’s [direct messages] and phone calls, I’ve noticed what works to gauge interest in someone else.
First things first: Spell people’s names correctly. It’s a pet peeve of mine when people misspell a name, especially when it’s in the email.
You have 10 seconds to get the attention of someone. Make it personal. You can tell when something is copied, pasted, and sent out to a ton of other people.
Also, be aware of life situations. If you’re emailing someone from Dallas, know they had a major cold front, ask how they are doing and wish them well.
Your pitch should include who you are and what you can do for others. Don’t ask or take; show how this partnership can be mutually beneficial.
Money motivates people. Mention that you can offer financial compensation, if that is, in fact, something you can offer.
Don’t be difficult. Influencers get a slew of emails on a daily basis. They are more inclined to work with you if you don’t badger them.
Most importantly, have fun with it. It’s not so serious. This is a creative marketing outlet.
