Familiar host returns to City Fish Market and “fish eye candy”

City Fish Market regulars still recognize new general manager George Mollas, even with a beard. After running Buckhead Life Restaurant Group’s Lobster Bar Sea Grille in Fort Lauderdale for six years, he’s back at the restaurant at 7940 Glades Road he opened across from Boca West.

Q: Once Truluck’s moved, did that leave City Fish Market and Chops Lobster Bar as the only upscale seafood houses in Boca?

A: Our sister restaurant’s specialty is more of a steakhouse. What sets us apart here is the quality. We won’t push product out that doesn’t meet our standards. We source our grouper locally. We offer a 2-pound yellowtail snapper. We always have pompano, soft shell crabs and Florida stone crabs in season. We announce specials. Of course, we offer steaks, rib eye, filet and New York strip cooked on a 1,700-degree broiler so it’s charred outside. We have chicken as well and a wonderful kids’ menu with ice cream and cookies. We introduced ½-off a bottle of wine under $100 Sundays through Wednesdays, and we are introducing a cocktail hour 5 to 7 p.m. in the lounge.

Q: What are you doing about outdoor dining on your patio and social distancing inside and out?

A: We have a 500-seat restaurant and now we can seat up to 260 and we don’t even go to that maximum. We maxed out on the patio respecting the 6-foot distancing. Inside we have high vaulted ceilings. Our terraces and clubrooms are used for those who want a quieter dining experience.

Q: I’m not sure people realize there’s a retail to-go market as you walk in. You even have crab cakes you can heat up yourself.

A: Retail is fish eye candy. Even if you’re not a fish lover, you will be tempted. We even have our own cut room in house.

Q: I see you reopened for dinner May 21. Will you reopen for lunch?

A: We’re open for dinner every day from 5 to 9 p.m. Reservations are recommended through OpenTable, at https://buckheadrestaurants.com/restaurant/city-fish-market/  or by calling the restaurant at 561-487-1600. But guests can order online for curbside pickup or delivery from noon to 8 p.m. and our in-house fish market is open daily from 12 noon to 8 p.m., too.

Q: Do you still have valet parking?

A: Yes, we are offering valet or you can self park a couple feet away.

Q: Anything else you want to say.

A: We’re honoring and exceeding all of the necessary national, state and local safety guidelines, along with some additional measures to ensure the safety of our staff and guests.
