Child Rescue Coalition hosts regular volunteer sessions to make blankets with bears to comfort rescued kids. However, this one was different.
Having a session in a larger space in Boca Raton Innovation Campus meant the coalition could invite over 100 people. “This is our biggest showing yet,” said the coalition’s Alex Ortiz. “There’s so many new faces helping this mission.” He thanked Crocker Partners for donating the space.
Crocker’s Angelo Bianco was there with his twin boys. They weren’t the only kids. Most volunteers brought children to help snip the edges of blankets to make a package. Each one included a stuffed animal, police officers’ activity book and crayons.
Thirty percent of supporters are new to Child Rescue when they find out what they do. Here’s where the police come in.
The coalition builds technology for use by law-enforcement free of charge. It’s used to track, arrest and prosecute child predators in at least 96 countries. Their website keeps track.
So far, the number rescued stands at 2,789 with 12,130 predators arrested. “We track every move they make,” said Roberto Machorro, software developer.
Staff went over suggestions for the Pause Before You Post campaign on not posting and sharing images of children. Bedrooms and bathrooms are off-limits. Make a contract for family safety and privacy before sharing those images with grandma.
